Hi all Is there a way of having the Hardware asset ID to copy what is put in the asset tag

Hi i am looking to see if there is a way for when we put in the asset tag this is copy over to the hardware asset id. We are having some issues where we are adding in duplicate assets as the system only looks at the hardware asset and not the asset tag. To stop this we want to use the hardware asset as the asset tag but we cant search on this so we nee to have the asset tag in both places but dont want to have to type this in twice

The HW Asset ID is set upon creation. If you create an asset in the console the GUID is the HW Asset ID, when you create an Asset with Asset Excel, the GUID is the HW Asset ID. That's why we suggest setting the HW Asset ID in the Asset Mgmt settings, so when the HW Sync runs, it creates Assets with GUID as HW Asset ID, and also when using Asset Import. Since the HW Asset ID cannot be changed after creation, I would not suggest placing the Asset Tag value there. It seems like a new view to replace any out-of-the-box views would help.5

You can change this setting in Administration/Settings/Asset Management Settings in the SCSM console.
Note, GUID is the recommended HWA ID. You should be able to search by asset tag. You might need to create a view that includes the AssetTag field to be able to filter for it. But in either case you should be able to do an advanced search:
