  When i attempted to set the background before it essentially made the box around the icon green which swallows the item.

  Hey Jason, you'll want to look for the "hover" attribute. I think it's line 304 in the cireson.main.css file which should be located in in the Styles folder. The color is currently sent to white / #00aaff; you can use simple word color but I'd suggest finding the color code for which color you're wanting to use.
