Cireson Portal - Can I add Custom Extended Incident ENUM to Portal Search Criteria?

As title says, I have added a new enum to our Incident form/class for Facility, and the extension is sealed. How can I add this field to the Work Item Search criteria in the portal?

    The way it currently works, you can make unsupported changes to the work item search controller, but it seems to only be able to look at the columns in dbo.workitem.  You can change the enum that is used to select which enum item goes into your search criteria (useful if you have a custom SR category and populate the work items table with those values), but it has to match something in that table.

    More info here (see John Doyle's comments to me, in particular), in case it is helpful.  Not sure that it will be for this, but maybe it can spur an idea for a workaround.
