Collapsed sections expanding on view refresh

Hello,
I have a user that has sorted his work view and grouped by "Service Group". He then collapses the groups that he isn't currently interested in so that he can see just what he needs. When the grid refreshes it expands all of the groups out again irrespective of what state they were in before the refresh.
The grid refresh is set to once a minute and I have tested shortening the refresh time in our test system to prove that it is on the refresh that the collapsed items open out again. This affects the views for "My Requests", "Team Requests", "My Work" and "Team Work".
Does anyone know how to make sure that, after the refresh, the collapsed groups remain collapsed?

I have noticed you can disable the grid view refresh by manually typing 0 into the box under Admin Settings > Work Item Settings > Grid Refresh Interval
However this would mean the grid is not refreshing and you will not see new tickets coming in unless you refresh the page.
I am looking into a way of doing this through JavaScript!
