Dear All,

Does anyone know a way to split the cireson portal from the management server?

Can it be installed on a separate web server?

Kind Regards

Daniel

Sure it can, but its best to have the SCSM installed for the cache builder to sync.

We have 6 MGT servers with one set specific for the workflows, the rest for user connections. the 5 portal servers, one just for the cache builder the rest on a NLB for user sessions. Then two more for running PowerShell maintenance tasks.

@Brian_Wiest How many user connections do you guys have?

We have 120 at most and we have one mgmt server for workflows (Primary Mgmt Server), one mgmt Server for the Portal and one additional mgmt Server as "Orchestrator Connection Server", which is also used for the Outlook console connection.

The 5 portal servers for user connections have SCSM installed as well right? How is that working for you? Or in other words, do you know around which number of user connections Cireson is proposing provisioning another portal server and putting them behind a load balancer?

Haven't really counted the connections on the console/outlook servers. The farm was designed to support our large community ~500 analysts.~30K users, since a MGT server can only support 50 connections per core per server and if someone is running the console and Outlook plugin that is 2 per user. All analysts including SCORCH connect to the MGT servers also thru the NLB. All designed to no downtime where we can shut down half the farm and not impact the community. Along with that we push for portal use more than anything. We have run the environment with only one portal server but internally decided for the 5. 1st portal is only Cache Builder 2nd is user connections unless we need to fail over cache builder. 3 is user connections. 4 is user connections unless we need to fail over 5. 5 runs in forms mode (rest are SSO) 5 is for people connecting to the service outside of our domain.

@Brian_Wiest Thx for the insight :)

As we have around 8000 end users and 150 analysts, we are doing good with the setup we have now.

As we just made our portal public facing with the help of Azure Proxy we think about implementing a split-brain DNS and changing the link to our standard (which we use for all non-internal service) form. So it would be possible to access the portal from anywhere with just one link and we would have the advantage of better performance for users being inside our company network. With that I thought about adding a second portal server and packing both of them behind a load balancer - But as most of our company is using the portal for requesting some service permissions and then leave it for 3 or 4 days, I guess this would be a bit too much.

Again thank you for that insight :)

Does anyone have some advice on how to split the web server install from the main scsm server?

So if i was to create a new server and install the portal and how to point the web server to the SCSM server?

    Kind Regards

We find it easist to install the web server as a MGT server and keep the portal reference to local host.
