Follow / Drill through CI relationships

Let's say that a configuration item is added to a work item.  With this feature in place, I should be able to see what else this CI is related to, click one of those CI's, view its properties, see what else it is related to, etc.

Ideally, this would be accomplished on the fly using web calls, so that it would not be necessary to create a type projection that considers all possible/desired relationship hierarchies.  But even if it was necessary to define those relationships in a type projection, some help on the UI side (CI details) would be most welcome.
