KB Article - Ability to attach documents or Browse to a UNC path

To make it easier to add documents to an article, it would be great to have one of the below options added to the KB Article Editor.

1. Add an attachment like you do in Incidents and service requests. This way where it is stored is transparent to the article writer. I know this will add to the database size but most organisations cannot move all articles into an HTML format initially so this would be a quick win to get Knowledge bases moved.

2. Allow for an attach document button but have it open to an explorer window so the article writer can easily navigate to the document and it adds the UNC path or HTTP link (say from SharePoint) to the article.

Im sure there are various ways of doing this but this is a major drawback to moving to the KB article system.

Not ideal but here is my solution to this currently.

    Embed attachment into a URL

    Convert the file at http://dataurl.net/#dataurlmaker
    Copy the code
    Click insert hyperlink
Paste the code in the web address field

Seems to be working ok for us.

I would like to second the ability to attach files to knowledge articles. Our portal is not available externally so it would be nice to be able to attach a file copy of the knowledge article or any related materials for sending to users who may remote and unable to access the portal. Our helpdesk technicians are strongly encouraged to print external reference materials to file and include them in the knowledge article as websites change and the reference material may be lost over time *cough cough TechNet**.
