SMS Notifications

In my past life, when we set up SMS notifications we had to install/configure a SMS gateway. Is this necessary for SCOM, if so, has anyone done this? Is there a freeware product out there, or do I have to go buy something?

    Hello Gordon,

I believe a gateway would be optional. This article gives a walk-through of setting up SCOM SMS notifications - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212811(v=sc.12).aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

and this article talks about using a gateway - https://sites.google.com/site/scomblogs/journal-blog/settingupansmsgatewayforsmsnotificationinscom

let me know if you have further questions,

    Gordon.

TextAnywhere is an amazing service in my book. There's loads out there but this one just seems to do everything right. Like many, you can email it with the phone number as the email address and it will convert email to SMS so it makes SMS notificaiotn easy.

    eg

To: 0121555455@smsanywhere.com Subject: SCOM Alert Body: Server1 is down

becomes an SMS sent to 0121555455 that comes 'from' SCOM Alert that reads Server1 is down

Its not free, however, you swipe a credit card and pay a few cents per SMS.
