Action Log Comment - Improved Character Count

We have users that paste in comments into the comment log and the behaviour seems to be (8.9.5) that it will cut off anything after 4000 characters. This seems really unfriendly and could actually cause problems. I would like it to keep all the text there with the character count displaying a minus count (perhaps highlighted red), and  an error message if they try to add the comment.

I was tempted to raise this as a bug because its not very user friendly and end users may think zero characters remaining is perfectly fine. The fact it doesn't warn you that its chopped off text is a bit frustrating for them and analysts could potentially get grief because of that.

Could we combine some of these Action Log enhancements together please Cireson?

We have this issue reported to us again in 11.0.4.2016. This time a user has added an implementation plan that exceeds the 4000 limit and lost content. They have realised and found a workaround but reported it as a defect. I agree it does seem like a defect.

Is there an option to create an add in for the portal to cover this? Ideally it would:

    1) Count down as the user typed

    2) If the user pasted in content that exceeds the limit it would show how much over they are

    3) It would prevent them from saving changes until the issue was corrected (instead of losing content)

It would be great if the portal did number 3 out of the box. Especially on IRs/CRs.
