Add support for apostrophes in AD Account display names, Organisations, and description fields

The Cireson Asset Excel app errors on apostrophes in:

  • Active Directory user accound display names - ie names like O'Reilly etc.  We have reassigned these assets for the purpose of import, that's not an ideal solution.
  • Organisations, ie Deputy's Office
  • Hardware Asset Description field.  As there is no notes field, we have concatenated our notes into the description field.  This has resulted in text such as Stored in Joe's filing cabinet, or repaired at Ted's Camera store.

We've decided that this one is a bug, rather than a feature request and have put it in the backlog for near term fixes.

What version of Asset Excel are you using?
What error message do you get when you try to import this? (Can you provide a screenshot?)

    Hi Brett,

I don't have a screenshot, but the dialogue box is titled Exception, and the text is:

"the criteria used for the query has a character or keyword that is not valid.  The following parse error was returned:  Parse error before S"

This was for an apostrophe in an organisation name.  I've also just had it happen with the Vendor name field - Ted's Camera Store again.

How do you check the version of the Excel App?

You should be able to see the version of the Asset Excel app from Add & Remove Programs.

Having talked about this with the dev team, this looks like a bug that we should be able to fix.
Watch this space for a new version.

I realize this is over 1 year old, but we're hitting the same issue with apostrophes for cost centers (e.g. Director's office in the description field).  The Excel app version we're using is 7.5.2012.2148.  Is there a resolution?
