Auto Setting fields in Send Email task on portal

Is there a way to automatically check the "Add Message to Action Log" and "Change Status to Pending" checkboxes? I'd like to use the status changes for notifications and possible SLAs but find it's easy for the analyst to forget to check those boxes.
