Recommendations for adding support group field when Time tracker is allready installed

To add support groups to our Problems, Change Requests, and activites but running into an issues with the fact we have time tracker installed for all work items. 
We have attempted to reference the Time trackers form but keep getting reference error. 
Suggestions/Recommendation would be helpful. Thanks

    Id recommend removing time tracker, making the form customization then add the XML for time tracker and seal with fastseal.

    Doesn't that mean the next time the Time Tracker is updated it would require us to recomplie our customization?
