Build Query results for RO - Best Practice?

When building/testing new RO's in my staging environment as far as I can tell the only way to test that the query results is pulling back what you want is to test it in the portal. 
Is that basically wants everyone does or are there other methods that can be used to see what options will return for the requester to use.

For my part, its the only way I've ever done it. Though on occasion, I've used Orchestrator to sort of mimic the results but that's usually when I am doing runbooks in support of the RO. Plus it helps to visually check what the end user will see even though having to constantly restart the cachebuilder service can get old

I have thought about updating the cache builder timing from 24 hours to say 5 minutes but seeing what other do as I am a little worried on changing that sync schedule.
