Our old KB was also HTML based, but it had tons of relative links to a somewhat ridiculous folder structure on the old app's site. So when the articles came over to the new KB, none of the links worked. Since I could not (in good conscience, anyway...) create the same folder structure on the new site I had to do a series of replace statements in SQL and condition all the <img src=""> attributes to a different path while preserving the filename and some folder info.
After I received a zipped archive from the other vendor, I created a folder on my server and extracted the images there. I could have extracted the files to a folder inside of CustomSpace and not have to go through any of the following pain, but instead chose to keep them outside of that folder. Because of this, after each portal update I have to re-map a virtual folder in the CiresonPortal site. I use an installation script anyway, so it was a simple matter to add that to the end, but I did want to point out that you could make it simpler than I did.
