Runbook Subscription
Having runbooks do complex automation tasks as part of SR / CR activity flows is always great and always fun but sometimes we need complex automation tasks to run outside of SRs and CRs. Building these processes into Service Manager Workflows is tricky and puts more and more load on our already overworked Workflow servers. Triggering Runbooks by changes to SCSM Objects and their properties is very difficult.
Introducing my idea: Runbook Subscriptions
Working with the exact same mechanism as a Email Notification Subscription, you could trigger an Runbook, passing in parameters from the object that triggered it and perform any number of amazingly complex automations. The one that inspired the above mock-up was a Hardware Asset Status changing from 'Deployed' to 'not Deployed' to trigger an 'Undeploy' Runbook. This could do all the tasks that are needed when a device comes back in from being used in the organisation (remove from AD, DNS, ConfigMgr, SCSM Windows Computer CIs, Security Apps, Patching Apps etc).
There would be no reason why this couldn't support Orchestrator, SMA and Azure Automation.
Please up-vote if you like the idea, and if we get enough it might one day happen. Let me know what you would like use it for too please.
