User showing as 'Domain User or Group'

We just recently migrated from 2012 to 2016 environment and one of analysts can not log into the portal. I have checked the users ci and noticed that he is appearing as a 'Domain User or Group' rather than an Active Directory User... I've synced the connector but still nothing. Any ideas how i can sort this?
