Send Email not updating the activity log

We just recently updated to 2016 SCSM, and we are having an issue where the Send Mail within the ticket is not adding the email to the History/log unless you select a template. We only have one template and its a default template type of thing.... we have never had to select one in the past, just curious if anyone has seen this. Thanks!
